ACTIVITIES

Additional and more specific information about these activities is contained in the Guest Information Brochure located in each apartment and the local Tourist Info office also has information.

Bicycling

A new and wonderfully scenic bicycle path, the Regental-Radweg, passes the Bavarian Interlude Chalet and winds along the Regen river. It connects to a large network of bicycle paths which makes it possible to bicycle all the way to Budapest, Hungary. Three men from Chamerau bicycled to Vienna, Austria.

Bicycles are for rent in Chamerau at the Tourist Office and at the Bistro in the Haus des Gastes.

Canoeing

Canoeing on the Regen river usually starts at the Blaibacher See (lake) which is only a few kilometers from the Bavarian Interlude Chalet. Canoes can be rented there or from several other firms that specialize in this sport.

Fishing

The Regen river is home to the following fish: carp, tench, barbel, Brachse, Nase, eel, whitefish, trout, pike, pike-perch, Wels.
The tourist information office in Chamerau has information about obtaining a fishing permit.

Golfing

Two 18-hole golf courses, the Golf-Club Furth im Wald and the Golfplatz Wutzschleife, are within a few minutes by car from the Bavarian Interlude Chalet. Fees are very reasonable.

Hiking

Well marked hiking trails abound around the Bavarian Interlude Chalet and throughout the Bavarian Forest region. The Bavarian Forest National Park (Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald) is a paradise for hikers.

Music

Traditional folk and classical music can be enjoyed throughout the year at numerous venues. Organ concerts in the cathedral St. Stephan in Passau or the famous Regensburger Domspatzen (cathedral boys choir) at the cathedral St. Peter in Regensburg can be enjoyed weekly, for example.

Chamerau has its very own traditional brass band, the Kapelle Josef Dobler.

Sightseeing

Beautiful medieval towns such as Passau, Regensburg and Straubing are only a short drive away. Passau's cathedral St. Stefan houses the world's biggest organ. Regensburg's cathedral St. Peter is the most significant gothic cathedral in Bavaria and the Steinerne Brücke (stone bridge) is the oldest bridge in Germany. Rothenburg a. d. Tauber, Germany's best preserved fortified medieval town, and Munich (München), Bavaria's capital and cultural center, and Nuremberg (Nürnberg) and Prague are easily accessible. Tourist Information offices also have information about bus tours to the nearby Czech Republic.

Beautiful crystal glass has been made in the Bavarian Forest for over 700 years. Glasshütten (glass factories) can be visited, glass blowers observed and crystal glass can be purchased.

Skiing

Cross country skiing is very popular. Several downhill skiing areas are nearby. The mountains in the Bavarian Forest are medium height. 60 peaks are over 1000 m high. Sport shops rent equipment.

Theatre

During the summer months outdoor medieval theatre can be enjoyed at numerous locations throughout the region.
